" Dear Mum! I'm sure you're very angry with me for being in Germany for almost eight days now without writing to tell you where I am. I'm here in Freiburg on a capercaillie and will stay until the 14th. Then I have to go to Berlin to look at new aircraft, which will take about three days, and then I'll come to Schweidnitz. You'll have to excuse me until then. From Schweidnitz, I will travel to Fürsten Pleß and shoot an aurochs there. Towards the end of the month, I want to visit the other fronts in the Balkans, etc. That will take about three to four weeks. Lothar is now leading my squadron and will probably receive the Pour le Mérite next. What do you say to your two wayward sons?"
